THE FLOODGATES OPEN

At a BOE meeting, a multitude of alumni and community members come forward to share their experiences of sexual assault, grooming and the culture of silence at BHS. The Board resolves to put 6 unnamed teachers on leave during an Executive Session demanded by the public after a nearly 5 hour meeting
NYS AG INVESTIGATES

NYS Attorney General, Leticia James, announces her office's investigation into the sexual abuse and misconduct accusations against the Babylon School District.
BETA-BAAC IS BORN

Ms. Rohl establishes beta-BAAC, gathering those actively interested in volunteering to help seek change in the Babylon School District.
BAAC LAUNCHES

Darcy Bennet and Carolyn El Serafi step into leadership roles to officially form the Babylon Alumni and Allies for Change collective.
THE FIRST ARREST
March 3, 2022
Timothy Harrison, a special education teacher and coach of 3 girls' sports teams, is the first BHS employee to face criminal charges for misconduct. Harrison, 46, is charged with two counts of rape in the third degree and one count of a criminal sexual act. The victim was just 15 years old.
Policy 9150 is Approved
August 2022
BAAC partnered with the BUFSD Policy Committee, District Superintendent Linda Rozzi, and concerned community members to revise Policy 9150: School District Adult & Student Relations (Formerly "Fraternization"). BAAC's contributions included: Framing that rectified outdated cultural / moral / ethical norms; Defining grooming and other red-flag behavior; Training that was definitive, time-bound, and extensive.
Citizens Advisory Committee is Appointed
September 2022
At the April 11th Board of Education meeting BAAC advocated for the appointment of a Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC). This was followed by an email campaign led by the group, and continued persistence at Board of Education meetings. The CAC was formally appointed in September 2022, and BAAC Co-Founder and Leader, Darcy Bennett serves as a member.
